GIMP: El editor de imágenes de Linux, transcripto para Windows por el finlandés Tor Lillqvist. Le faltan las funciones industriales del Photoshop , pero abunda en características de ilustración y arte. De lo mejor.
OpenOffice: Un paquete de oficina más que completo para individuos y pequeñas oficinas. Algunas funciones no son tan directas como en otras aplicaciones de esta clase, pero su costo cero, sus constantes mejoras y el hecho de que está basado en el mismo código que el StarOffice de Sun Microsystems lo hacen muy recomendable.
ZoneAlarm: nada mejor que un buen firewall para complementar el antivirus. Este es gratis y sumamente fácil de usar.
AVG antivirus: Todas las computadoras necesitan un antivirus, pero no todos disponen del presupuesto para adquirir un paquete comercial. El AVG Free Edition es excelente y tiene costo cero; sólo requiere registrarse en línea para recibir la contraseña.
Zip a toda velocidad ( QuickZip - 3,07 MB): Es el caso de los archivos terminados en LZH , que son las siglas de Lempel-Ziv y Haruyasu, los inventores del mecanismo de compresión que se usa en este tipo de ficheros. Junto con los típicos ZIP y los ARJ , los LZH (o LZA , en otros casos) son las extensiones que con más frecuencia puede llegar a encontrar en Internet.
